Dropper a aOk Ok Oka

Dropper, the band led by Brooklyn’s Andrea Scanniello, impressed us with the early singles from new album Don’t Talk To Me. Today the group has returned with another exemplary slice of retro-tinted indie rock. Dropper’s music tends to include shades of country, pop, garage rock, and psych, and the new “Ok Ok Ok” is certainly in that wheelhouse. It’s a breakup song with a swinging rhythm, shimmering wah-wah guitar, and a muscular vocal from Scanniello: “Being around you makes me want to die.”

Fugees Call Off Reunion Tour

Last fall, when the Fugees announced a reunion tour to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their instant classic sophomore album and swan song The Score, the jokes about its eventual cancellation were immediate. A month later, when they postponed the tour with the promise of adding more dates in other cities, the tone of those cancellation predictions became increasingly bleak and fatalistic. And now it has come to pass: The Fugees have called off their reunion tour.

Watch Wilco Play aCut Your Haira With Stephen Malkmus & aKameraa With Britt Daniel At Sky Blue Sky

Wilco have covered Pavement’s Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain hit “Cut Your Hair” before. But last night, they did it with Pavement frontman Stephen Malkmus himself. Beachheads a aChangea

Beachheads are such a weird band. Two of the four members of this Norwegian group are also in Kvelertak, the heroically burly metal band. Musically, though, Beachheads are light-years removed from Kvelertak. Instead, they make jangly, catchy power-pop that’s full of soft textures and assured hooks. They’re really good at it! Whenever you find some musicians that are great at two radically divergent styles of music, you have to sort of reassess all your ideas about human potential.

The Story Behind Every Song On Silverbacksa New Album Archive Material

Back in the summer of 2020, the Dublin quintet Silverbacks released their great debut Fad. It was an album full of infectious hooks and addicting guitarwork, coalescing in a sound that was a fusion of various classic strains of indie rock. At the time, you could already imagine Silverbacks taking these songs on the road and winning legions of new fans. That didn’t happen then; like many upstart bands, Silverbacks’ plans went on hold during the pandemic. But they also used that time well. The band — the core songwriting duo of guitarist/vocalist brothers Daniel and Kilian O’Kelly, bassist/vocalist Emma Hanlon, guitarist Peadar Kearney, and drummer Gary Wickham — are prolific enough they were already talking about a sophomore album before Fad was even close to coming out. Now, that sophomore album, Archive Material, has arrived.
